SUMMER YOGA AND PILATES DAY RETREAT - SUNDAY, 22ndth of July, 2018 - 10.30-17.30 - SALTMARSHE HALL, Howden, DN14 7RX. The total cost inclusive of all food and activities is £90.

Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and let’s you out.” Deb Caletti

During July all of nature is in full bloom within the grounds of Saltmarshe Hall's 17 acres of stunning parkland and manicured gardens that surround its elegantly restored Georgian Grade II listed home. The power of the sun is at its peak, it fuels us with its energy, and fires our passions whilst the days are long. Join us on this specially themed Retreat Day to help you celebrate the bounty fueled by the solar rays of the sun.

Itinerary (please note, that nothing is compulsory except that you enjoy yourself). We reserve the right to change the activities and times.

10.30 – Arrivals, refreshments, seasonal snacks and an outline of the day’s schedule.

11.00 - A choice of the following pre-booked classes: Yoga or Pilates.

* Pilates class: Summer is a time of growth and long days. The summer solstice marks the point when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky creating the longest day of the year. A time when the warmth of the sun makes us feel longer, lighter and brighter. Bridget’s Pilates workshop will focus on finding length and ‘space’ in the body for movement. Starting with a series of gentle stretching exercises and exploring the ‘two-way’ extension to lengthen and establish good alignment. We will progress onto developing core strength and the ‘powerhouse’ and finish with a focus on stability and mobility through a series of exercises. The session will have its roots in posture and alignment leaving you feeling longer, open and more balanced.

* Yoga session: Summer is the time of personal harvest, as the alchemy of the sun transforms seeds to fruition during the growing season, this Solar Manipura Chakra Yoga Practice is about celebrating your achievements by working with standing postures and twists to bring vibrant, confident energy into the core of your body, the seat of your personal power: “When you are content to be simply yourself, and don’t compete or contend, you will gain true respect.” Lao Tzu. Not only will this practice promote digestive efficiency, but also a zest for life. We will finish our physical practice with a short Chakra Shuddhi Meditation to help balance the whole subtle body system.

12.15 - YOUR TIME An opportunity to enjoy the beautiful rooms of the Hall, quiet time with a book, a dip in the outdoor heated swimming pool, or a self-guided walk with a supplied map in the Hall's parklands and gardens.

13.15 – Seasonal two course lunch.

2.30pm onwards – Pre-Booked Take Away Skills Workshops for Everyday Mind and Body Maintenance (each 25 minute session will be on concurrently and will be repeated so there is an opportunity to attend both 1 and 2 by each Retreat Leader).

Bridget Jacques:

2.30pm + 3.30pm - Practical Workshop 1: This workshop aims to equip you with exercises and techniques to combat the effects of sitting for too long, resulting in us holding a fixed position. We find ourselves through work commitments, mobile phones and other electronic devices becoming sedentary for long periods of time. The effect of this on our posture is causing a host of problems in the body. As Nilofer Merchant stated “Sitting has become the smoking of our generation.” This workshop will help to combat the negative effects of sitting for long periods of time.

3pm + 4pm - Practical Workshop 2: This workshop will explore two contrasting elements. The first using a simple towel which can be used as a prop from helping increase movement potential in the body to supporting the head and seated alignment. In this workshop we will explore the wonders of the towel in Pilates. The second element of this workshop will explore the shoulder complex including the scapula, an area we often hold tension causing pain and discomfort in the neck and shoulders. We will explore how to utilise this area of the body appropriately in movement. Skills learnt in this workshop can be transferred into your everyday life.

Tristessa Moore:

2.30pm + 3.30pm - Practical Workshop 1: “Yoga Therapy for Insomnia.” The summer sunshine and warm weather are a wonderful energetic boost after winter especially as we live in the northern latitudes, but what if the long warmer days aggravate your ability to sleep? Around 1 in 3 people have some kind of sleep disturbance so whether you suffer from seasonal or all year round insomnia or know someone who does, this workshop maybe of interest to you – it is both informative, educational and offers practical strategies to help achieve a refreshing night’s rest.

3pm + 4pm - Practical Workshop 2: Guided Yoga Nidra: supported by bolsters, blankets, and props to hold and support you in a gentle restorative pose, we will work with the energy of self-confidence in this specially scripted guided relaxation based on the affirmation: “I am secure in who I am.” If you attended the “Yoga Therapy for Insomnia” workshop you will be given a free copy of the script to record in your own voice as it is proven to be a very powerful antidote against sleep disturbances.

16.30- Afternoon tea.

17.00 - Plenary - questions, departures and goodbyes.

About Tristessa

I turned to the practice of Yoga and Mindfulness to balance the challenge of working as an English teacher and a single mother of one fabulous, but now grown-up son. Its benefits inspired me to qualify in teaching Yoga and Mindfulness. As a Yoga Coach I am fully insured and Emergency First Aid trained. I am currently working towards the completion of a two-year post-graduate diploma in Yoga Therapy. This qualification allows me to adapt Yoga to specific health problems and is to be completed in September, 2018. Yoga Therapy Graduates are trained to a standard which allows them to register with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners which provides assurance that the practitioner is trained to an exceptionally high standard and works to a recognized code of ethics. If you would like to inquire about a personal Yoga Therapy one-to-one session, please fill in the form on the Contact Page or call 07758519567
